What do I do if the motor accident happens in Malaysia?

Please exchange particulars including insurance details with the party/parties involved and make a police report in Malaysia.

Please drive your vehicle back to any authorised workshop in Singapore for damage assessment and repairs.

If you require towing services, please call the insurers hotline for towing assistance.

Alternatively, you may arrange for your own towing services and submit the towing receipts for reimbursement under your comprehensive motor insurance policy according to the claim limits.

4

I have received a letter from a third party lawyer, what should I do?

Please do not reply to the third party lawyer.

If the letter is addressed/copied to us, you do not need to do anything. Otherwise, please send or email a copy of the letter to us.

5

If the Third Party Insurer rejected my claim, can I now submit a claim under my policy?

No, we will not allow partial or full reversion/submission of claims beyond 14 days from the date of accident/discovery of loss.

6

When will my NCD be affected?

Your NCD will be protected for the first claim arising out of the same accident made during the period of insurance. If you have more than one claim arising out of different accidents, your NCD for the subsequent claims will be affected.

Note: Your NCD may still be reduced for late reporting with NCD Protector.

In an ideal world, your road tax and car insurance expires at the same time so that you only have to deal with this administrative duty once a year without having to remember different dates and risk missing deadlines.

Most times however, this isn’t the case, especially if you have purchased a used car from someone else. What can you do then to sync up your car insurance coverage with your road tax validity?

With car insurance being a prerequisite for road tax renewal, you’ll definitely have to purchase this first. However, you can purchase your car insurance in advance and choose to start your coverage at the same time as your road tax renewal. This way, they will expire at the same time.

But what if your car insurance coverage ends this month while your road tax will only be due three months after?

It’s simple. Rather than renewing your car insurance for a standard 12 months, extend it to 15 months so that it ends at the same time as your road tax.

8

How to renew your road tax

There are primarily five ways to renew your road tax.

  1. Online at OneMotoring

  2. AXS Services – either at an AXS Station or online i.e. AXS m-Station and AXS e-Station

  3. SAM Services

  4. GIRO (One month processing time)

  5. At Road Tax Collection Centres

9

Am I able to choose my excess amount to suit my needs?

Yes, you may adjust your excess amount with a comprehensive plan.

10

Do you cover my car’s sun/moon/sky roof?

Yes, there is an option to add cover (up to $2,000) for your car’s sun/moon/sky roof with a comprehensive plan.

Excess refers to the amount of money that the policyholder must pay out-of-pocket towards a claim before the insurer will cover the remaining cost. In Singapore, car insurance policies typically have a standard excess amount, but policyholders may have the option to increase or decrease their excess amount in exchange for a change in their insurance premiums.

11

What Is Excess In Car Insurance?

Yes, you can purchase additional coverage for your basic car insurance. This is known as add-on or extension coverage.

Some common types of add-on coverage for car insurance in Singapore include:

NCD Protector: Protects your No-Claim Discount (NCD) in the event of an accident or claim.

Loss of Use: Reimburses you for the cost on loss of usage while your car is being repaired in the workshop

Accessories Coverage: Covers the cost of repairing or replacing accessories that are damaged in an accident.

12

Can I Purchase Additional Coverage On Top Of My Basic Car Insurance Policy In Singapore?

13

Does car insurance cover damage caused by natural disasters?

It depends on your coverage. Comprehensive car insurance usually covers damage from floods, storms, or falling trees, while third-party only policies typically do not.

14

Does car insurance cover rental or commercial vehicle use?

No, not by default. Private car insurance usually excludes rental, ride-hailing, or commercial use unless you purchase specific add-on coverage or a commercial vehicle policy.

15

My NCD went up by 10% and I have had no claims in the past year. So why has my car insurance premium increased?

There are a number of factors involved in pricing premiums. Firstly, there may be an increase in claims for your car make and model, which will lead to higher premiums. The higher price may also be driven by inflation. For example, increased repair costs, legal fees and medical costs means increased insurance premiums to keep up with these costs in general.

16

Can NCD be split between multiple cars?

Your NCD applies to you and not to your car. You will retain your NCD if you sell your car. However, if you own more than one vehicle, you might have a different NCD for each car as it cannot be applied to more than one vehicle at any point in time.

17

Will my car windscreen claims affect my NCD?

Your windscreen claim will not affect your No Claim Discount.
